- 100,000 cataloged items dedicated to history and genealogy emphasizing St. Louis and migration trails into the St. Louis area. Many books in the collection can be checked out.
- Microfilm copies of original St. Louis records for, including marriage, death, court, will, naturalization, church, and cemetery records.
- City directories for St. Louis and other communities.
- Newspapers on microfilm, including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Globe Democrat, as well as local community and ethnic newspapers for St. Louis.
- A wide selection of electronic databases for genealogical and historical research. Most can be used remotely with a valid St. Louis County Library card.
- Local History File with information about St. Louis-area communities and subjects related to St. Louis history.
