Notes: AKA: Arsenal Island, Quarantine Island, or Small Pox Island. Acts of congress in 1812 and 1814 gave the island to the city of St. Louis. A military hospital was in operation on the island from 1861 to 1865 and confederate soldiers were buried on the island.  Many of those who died in the Cholera epidemic of 1849 were buried at City Cemetery (#2 - Benton Park) - those burials were exhumed and removed to Arsenal Island in 1865 to make way for Benton Park neighborhood.  Washed away by river.
