St. Louis County Library has received funding from the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) to provide 1,000 internet connected Chromebooks to eligible residents. The devices come preloaded with unlimited data through June 30, 2024. Any resident in the St. Louis County Library District is eligible to apply, particularly those who lack the equipment and services to access the internet. Applications will be accepted through SLCL’s website September 19 through October 1, 2023 at www.slcl.org/chromebooks.

St. Louis County Library will host the 44th annual St. Louis Storytelling Festival from October 18-28, 2023. The festival will include performances by nationally renowned storytellers as well as writing workshops, dance performances, puppetry, songwriting tutorials, ghost stories, folklore and more. A complete schedule of events is available at www.slcl.org/storytelling. Storytelling Festival events will take place at a variety of venues through the St. Louis region, including SLCL branch locations, the Missouri History Museum and the St. Louis Ethical Society. All events are free and open to the public.

Our recent acquisitions include the following surnames: Abercrombie, Achenbach, Acheson, Allison, Ames, Applegate, Baskerville, Braford, Cochran, Dameron, Dewees, Dimock, Donaphin, Eckhardt, Esquer, Irvine, Kressin, Lato, Linossier, Mack, Marfell, Monagan, Root, Scalise, Steagall, Treptow, Werstler. Many family history books circulate and can be checked out or transferred through interlibrary loan.

St. Louis County Library and Affinia Healthcare are partnering to offer Medicaid sign-up events at three SLCL branches this fall. Representatives from Affinia Healthcare will be available to help individuals sign up or re-enroll for Medicaid benefits on a weekly basis starting in September.

The St. Louis County Library, the JCC of St. Louis and the Novel Neighbor are pleased to host an SLCL Authors @ the J event with New York Times Tech Reporter Kashmir Hill, author of  “Your Face Belongs to Us: A Secret Startup’s Quest to End Privacy As We Know It.” Presented by SLCL’s Westfall Politics & History Author Series. The event will take place on Thursday September 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the JCC’s Staenberg Family Center – Mirowitz Performing Arts Center, 2 Millstone Campus Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146. The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from The Novel Neighbor.
