St. Louis County Library Foundation’s Reading Garden Series for Young Audiences and the Novel Neighbor are pleased to present comic strip and graphic novel artist and author Steenz for a discussion and signing of “Heart Takes the Stage: A Heart of the City Collection.”

The event will take place on Wednesday, July 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Glaize Branch of St. Louis County Library, 1010 Meramec Station Rd. Manchester, MO 63021.

The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from The Novel Neighbor.

St. Louis-based, nationally-syndicated cartoonist Steenz presents a collection of their beloved comics about Heart Lamarr, a middle-grade girl with big dreams. Heart has her sights set on a life of theater, but she runs into plenty of drama off-stage, too. Luckily her best friends form a stellar supporting cast to help Heart navigate the challenging world of school plays, cliques, rumors, and everything else middle school throws at them.

“Heart Takes the Stage” is packed with outstanding art, a diverse cast of characters, and engaging, positive storylines about friendship, pop culture, ghost stories, and a wide range of real-world issues.

Steenz is a St. Louis based cartoonist, editor, and professor. They’re the cartoonist on the Ringo Award-Nominated syndicated comic strip “Heart Of The City” and the co-creator of the Dwayne McDuffie award-winning graphic novel “Archival Quality.” Steenz also launched and edited the popular role-playing game periodical “Rolled & Told.” They participate in and create community building comics related programming, and are frequent panelist at comic cons. Steenz currently teaches cartooning at Webster University while editing comics for independent publishers.

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

Program sites are accessible. With at least two weeks' notice, accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities. Call 314-994-3300 or contact us.
