SLCL and the SLSO Present “Conducting a Career” with Leonard Slatkin
St. Louis County Library Foundation and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra are pleased to host a special event with internationally acclaimed conductor, composer, and author Leonard Slatkin in conversation with Julie Schuster, CEO & General Manager at Classic 107.3. The event will take place on Friday, October 25, 7:00 p.m. at the Clark Family Branch, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis MO 63131.

Internationally acclaimed American conductor, composer, and author, Leonard Slatkin, Conductor Laureate of the SLSO, celebrates his 80th birthday by reflecting on a nearly 60-year career that has seen him conduct the world’s leading orchestras. This special event offers a rare and intimate glimpse into Leonard’s extraordinary journey. From his early inspirations and challenges as an emerging conductor to his numerous accolades, Leonard’s story is one of passion, dedication, and profound influence on the world of classical music. This conversation promises to be an inspiring tribute to a life devoted to the arts.
Internationally acclaimed conductor Leonard Slatkin is Music Director Laureate of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Directeur Musical Honoraire of the Orchestre National de Lyon, Conductor Laureate of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, and Artistic Consultant to the Las Vegas Philharmonic. He maintains a rigorous schedule of guest conducting and is active as a composer, author, and educator.
Slatkin has received six Grammy awards and 35 nominations. A recipient of the National Medal of Arts, Slatkin also holds the rank of Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor. He has been awarded the Prix Charbonnier from the Federation of Alliances Françaises, Austria’s Decoration of Honor in Silver, and the League of American Orchestras’ Gold Baton.
