Political Analyst and Attorney Bakari Sellers Presents “The Moment”
St. Louis County Library Foundation is pleased to host former State Representative, CNN political analyst and bestselling author Bakari Sellers for a discussion and signing of his book “The Moment: Thoughts on the Race Reckoning That Wasn’t and How We Can All Move Forward Now.”
The event will take place on Thursday, May 2, at 7:00 p.m. at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, 9001 Clayton Rd., St. Louis, MO 63117. The program is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase at the event from EyeSeeMe.
Bakari Sellers will be in conversation with Adia Harvey Wingfield, Washington University professor of sociology and author of “Gray Areas: How the Way We Work Perpetuates Racism and What We Can Do to Fix It.”
The event is presented by St. Louis County Library’s Westfall Politics and History Series.
Bakari Sellers made history in 2006 when, at just 22-years-old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the nation. In 2014 he was the Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor in the state of South Carolina. Sellers is a CNN political analyst and served in the South Carolina state legislature. Sellers is also a practicing attorney who fights to give a voice to the voiceless.
In “The Moment,” Sellers expands on the issues he addressed in his New York Times bestseller “My Vanishing Country,” examining national politics and policies that deeply impact not only Black people in his home state of South Carolina but the lives of millions of African Americans in communities across the nation.
Sellers explores inequities in healthcare, education, early childhood education, and policing, drawing on interviews with numerous thought leaders, voting rights and poverty activists, and civil rights legends. This thoughtful and practical work is a timely meditation on the state of our world today and how we can all play a part in making it better for tomorrow.
