St. Louis County Library service is NOT given to schools, but to individual persons who hold St. Louis County Library borrower's cards. Since many students use branch and/or bookmobile facilities in addition to the school bookmobiles, individual student borrower's cards should not be held at schools.

Teachers who wish to use library facilities to supplement the school program may do so, so far as the library collection will permit. Each is responsible for library materials issued in his/her name, their safe return, and for any fines which may accrue. Fines on overdue books are determined by the agency from which the books were issued, not by the agency to which they are returned.

Teachers and other full-time employees of a public, parochial or any other non-profit school located within the County Library District may be issued a free library card regardless of place of residence.

SCHOOL BOOKMOBILE ONLY cards for a student who is not a resident of the St. Louis County Library District are available. The fee for this service is $2.00 per school year (application made anytime during the first semester) or $1.00 for the second semester only (application made any time after January 1st or during the second semester). The purchase may be made by the parent for each of their children, or the school may purchase cards for their nonresident enrollees. Parent's signature agreeing to the responsibility for fines, damages, and losses is required.

Normally, a SCHOOL BOOKMOBILE ONLY card is sold only on the bookmobile visiting the child's school.

Nonresident students may use the school bookmobiles free of charge if the school district or the private or parochial school agrees to pay for books lost or damaged by those students. The library cards will be issued to the individual student at the school attended and notices will be mailed to the home. Copies will be given to the school. Pre-schools wishing service under this rule will be issued one card limited to JE/1-2. Applications for free service to non-residents in the school may be obtained by calling 314/994-3300.

The SCHOOL BOOKMOBILE ONLY card is valid only until the end of the school year and may be used only on the bookmobile visiting the school attended by the child. It does not entitle the user to branch services or to bookmobile services other than school bookmobile.
