Requests and Holds

Information

1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd. • St. Louis, MO 63131 • (314) 994-3300

St. Louis County Library provides eligible library cardholders complete access to the circulating collection through the online catalog. To place a request on circulating items, search the online catalog, locate a specific item, and then select the "Request" button next to the item.

The maximum number of holds that a library cardholder can have at any one time is 25.

If you cannot locate an item on the shelf, please ask a librarian for assistance.

If the item you are looking for is currently unavailable, you may place a request on the item using your library card. You can be notified by email, telephone, or by U.S. mail. The requested item will be held at the branch of your choosing for up to 8 days from the date a notice was sent.

Notification of Request: Email, Telephone, U.S. Mail

E-mail is the fastest way to receive notices and is available to anyone with an e-mail account. Complete information including title, pick-up branch and expiration date of the hold(s) are included in the message. Apply online or contact your local branch for help using this feature.

Telephone notification is an automated system that places a call to the home. A general message is left stating that an item is available for pickup and the branch where it is being held. No other names or specific information can be provided.

U.S. mail notification is also available. Notices are mailed and provide information on the item being held, where it is being held, and the date the item will be held through.
