May Reference books be checked out?

• Reference books may NOT be checked out. This policy ensures that reference books will be available at the library for all to use at all times. You may make copies (10 cents per page) at our copy machines.

Do you offer computer classes?

• Yes, both the Training Department and the Reference Department offer computer classes for the public at our headquarters location. Please see our list of classes.

Do you have computers for public use?

• Yes, we have computers for the public to use at no charge. Access to the Internet, word processing, Excel, and subscription databases are available on the public computers. See SLCL's Internet policy. It costs 10 cents a page to print from our computers.
• We also offer many databases via our Web site that the public may access remotely from their own computers. See those databases with the "Home" icon on our Databases page.

How do I ask a reference question?

Use any of these four methods to ask a question:

• Come in to the Reference Department
• Call the St. Louis County Library at 994-3300. Ask for the Reference Department.
• You may e-mail a question directly to the following address: reference@slcl.org
• You may ask a question using our live chat service.

What types of questions do you answer?

• Generally, the Reference Department staff answers questions that require short, factual responses. While we do not do in-depth research, we do offer direction and guidance for those doing research. We cannot answer medical or legal questions requiring more than a simple definition.
